Xin Kee is one Cheong Fun stall to look out for.The hero of this Chinese Chicken Salad is the Asian Dressing and crunchy noodles. The peanut sauce – thick, creamy, smooth and partly fragrant, seals this as one of the best renditions I had in Singapore. The way it is presented, the cheong fun is cut into almost even pieces, drizzled with the two styles of sauces. It mainly relies on peanut butter and sweet sauce to give the plain cheong fun flavour. You may have last seen such presentation of Hong Kong-style Peanut Sauce & Sweet Sauce ($3.50) in a good Cantonese restaurant, but is a seldom seen but tasty combination in a hawker centre. The special soy sauce was pumped out for a hot water flask – was it a way to keep it warm? (and out faster) You can also add some fried shallots for that crispy texture.
Try it with the chilli sauce, which is as savoury as it is spicy with a touch of sweetness – I loved it. Within the thin and silky-smooth layer of cheong fun, finely diced pieces of char siew were easy to spot.Ĭoriander is an extra addition, as a kick of freshness to break up the monotony of soy sauce and char siew. Much like every dim sum shop, the Char Siew Cheong Fun ($4) is one of the most popular ones. Spot the two steaming trays in the corner of the shop, in which a layer of the CCF mixture steams and firms up. There are sometimes occasional specials such as Youtiao Cheong Fun ($3.70) aka zha leong.Įach plate of CCF is made fresh and upon order.

Xin Kee is not a place where you will be unable to decide, seeing as there are only four types of CCF on the menu. It is also a pretty new stall in its own right. Since there was a long queue when I got there, I wandered around the Beach Road area and stumbled onto another CCF spot – Xin Kee Hong Kong Cheong Fun 鑫记港式肠粉, a stone’s throw away in Golden Mile Food Centre. Sing Lung HK Cheong Fun at Beach Road, earning itself a Bib Gourmand in the Michelin Guide. When Chee Cheong Fun stalls started popping up over, a few of them managed to separate themselves from the rest.
